                                        SUSPICIOUS REPORT

                             E.C. Goodwin Technical School Evacuation

   Today 03/12/08, shortly after 7:15 a.m., a 911 call was received at New Britain P.D.  The caller reported that a suspicious person was observed entering a construction trailer on the property in the rear of the school building. The caller further stated that the person was carrying what appeared to be a possible weapon. 

   New Britain Police and State Police personnel responded to the school scene at E.C. Goodwin Technical School andthe administrators of the school activated their in-house school emergency plan.

   Theexterior of the school was secured by New Britain Police to prevent any further access to the school by students or staff.  All arriving students were directed to a safe area across the street from this school facility. All students and people inside the school facility were located and evacuated by State Police personnel.

   A complete search of the school facility was undertaken.  Teams of State Troopers entered the building and conducted a room by room examination of the entire school. All areas under construction including the equipment and construction trailers were also searched.  State Police K-9 teams respondedand also searched the entire facility.

   At 11:15 a.m. the entire school search was completed with negative results.  There was no suspect located and no weapon was found.  Students and faculty were returned to the school at that time.  

   State Police are continuing the investigation into this report.  Any witnesses who may have information are asked to contact State Police at (860) 534-1000.
