                              STATE POLICE ARREST MOTHER
FOR RISK OF INJURY TO MINOR

On Sunday, August 3, 2008, shortly after 8:30 a.m., State Police at Troop D in Danielson received several 911 calls reporting that a small boy was crawling on a second story ledge of a building located at 87 Main Street in the town of Danielson.

The callers also reported that the child was walking along the ledge of the building outside his apartment window approximately twenty feet above the ground and lost his balance. The child fell from the ledge onto a metal canopy above the Danielson Bookstore. From the canopy the child fell towards the ground where he was caught by a citizen who rushed to try to aid the falling child.

Jeffrey Leonard, DOB: 06/10/57, of 72 Snake Meadow Road in Killingly caught the child before the child hit the ground, preventing probable serious physical injury to the child.

The child,  DOB: 12/31/05, of Danielson was evaluated by ambulance personnel who responded to the scene. The child sustained no injuries.

Responding State Troopers initiated an investigation into this incident. Troopers determined that the child was in the care of his mother and she was asleep in the apartment when the child fell from the ledge. The mother was taken into custody by Troopers and transported to Troop D where she was formally charged in this incident.  DCF was notified and responded to the residence.
