                  STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE POLICE SHOOTING IN EASTON

   Today, 05/18/08, at 2:20 p.m., a Regional Local Police Response Team made of up six local police departments was assisting Easton P.D. in the execution of an Easton Police Department search and seizure warrant for a private residence located at 91 Dogwood Drive in Easton.

   

   Upon entry to the residence the local police and police response team were met by the  homeowner and a second person.  The second person charged the entry team and physically encountered two of the police officers.  A local police officer discharged his service weapon striking this second male person fatally wounding him.  The wounded person and two local police officers were transported by EMS to local hospitals for emergency treatment. The wounded male was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.  The two officers were treated.

   At the request of the Easton Police Chief and the Bridgeport State’s Attorney the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to conduct the investigation on to this police shooting.

   The identities of the involved people are being withheld at this time to allow for the next of kin to be notified. The identities of the police officers are also being withheld at this time to allow for family notifications.   

   A postmortem examination will be conducted by the Office of the Chief State’s Medical examiner to determine the manner and cause of death.

   The State Police investigation is continuing.
