4th of JULY ENFORCEMENT STATISTICS
FROM THE CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE

   The State Police initiated the July 4th enforcement period OPERATION C.A.R.E. (COMBINED ACCIDENT REDUCTION EFFORT ) on July 3rd and continueD this special enforcement until midnight on July 6th.  This effort included the use of specialized enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft.  In addition there were numerous sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI enforcement efforts.

   The following are the most current Connecticut State Police enforcement statisticss for the highways and roadways in the state:

         Total Accidents: 233

         with injury: 43

         Number of Fatal Accidents: 4 (Trumbull, WethersfieldNorth Stonington and Rocky Hill), with a total of 6 deaths.

         DWI Arrests:  65

         Seatbelt Tickets:  449

         Speeding Tickets:  1,319

         Other hazardous tickets: 1,335

   The State Police summer enforcement operations will continue statewide to include speed, DUI and hazardous, aggressive driving.  

   All motorists are reminded to report suspected drunk drivers and reckless operators.  Help us enhance highway safety.
