2007 Internal Affairs Unit Annual Report

During the 2007 calendar year, five hundred fifty-two (552) complaints were received which resulted in one hundred eighty (180) investigations of our personnel.  This total reflects both sworn and civilian employees and includes both Internal Affairs (IA) and Administrative Inquiries (AI).  Some of these cases involved multiple subjects.

Of the two hundred thirteen (213) subjects, the investigations were categorized as follows:

Criminal

14

Excessive Use of Force

9

Civil Rights

8

Rules and Regulations

123

Expectation of Performance

57

Discharge of Firearms

These numbers reflect a rise in the number of complaints over the previous year primarily as a result of a new reporting system that captures all citizen complaints and the use of the internet as a means to make a complaint.
