STATE POLICE JULY 4th ENFORCEMENT

   The Connecticut State Police continued its enforcement effort over the entire July 4th holiday.

   This year due to the midweek July 4th holiday, State Police continued the extra enforcement effort until Sunday July 8th. The Nationwide Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) was in effect for the entire enforcement operation.

   Following are the July 4, 2007 totals of State Police motor vehicle enforcement and accident information. The compiling of holiday enforcement stats began at 12:00 midnight on July 3rd and ended on July 8th at midnight.  State Police enforcement produced the following motor vehicle arrests and accident stats.

DUI Arrests----70

Speeding Tickets----1,442

Seat Belt Tickets---408

   State Police will continue to monitor Connecticut traffic and strictly enforce all motor vehicle laws as the summer vacation season continues.

   NOTE--During July 4th 2006, State Police issued the following number of summons: 1,536 for speeding, 56 DUI and 371 seatbelt arrest.  State Police investigated 291 motor vehicle crashes. There were 62 crashes with injuries, and 4 fatal crashes.
