Suspicious Incident at Middlesex Superior Court

At approximately 11:23 a.m. Wednesday morning, August 9th, 2006 an incident was reported to the State Police pertaining to a suspicious substance in the Office of the Clerk for the Superior Court G.A. 9 in Middletown. The State Police, Middletown Police and Middletown Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

The substance was discovered by a state judicial worker during the normal course of business while handling correspondence.

As a precaution the area of the Clerk’s Office was closed and personnel were evaluated by the Middletown Fire and EMS personnel. There were no injuries reported. Subsequently court operations were suspended and the court was closed for business.

The State Police Emergency Services Unit responded to the scene. State Troopers trained in the handling of suspected hazardous materials seized  and packaged the substance so it could be transported to the State of Connecticut Department of Health Laboratory for analysis.

State Police Detectives from the Major Crime Squad were assigned to investigate this incident. This is an on going criminal investigation.
