STATE POLICE ARREST FORMER STATE'S ATTORNEY                                      

In early March 2005 the Connecticut State Police received a criminal complaint from the Chief State’s Attorney Office.  The complaint alleged that an Assistant State’s Attorney assigned to Superior Court in New Haven at GA #23 was accepting money destined for charitable organizations in lieu of prosecution and was keeping that money.

A criminal investigation was initiated by State Police Detectives assigned to a Specialized State Police Investigative unit. During the investigation Detectives interviewed over 50 witnesses.  These witnesses were court employees and former defendants who had appeared in court.

After compiling facts and circumstances in this criminal investigation, State Police Detectives submitted an arrest warrant affidavit for the arrest of the accused, to the Superior Court GA #23 in New Haven.

On 02/09/06 the arrest warrant was issued by the court for the arrest of the accused in this case.

Today 02/10/06 the accused surrendered himself to State Police at Troop-I in Bethany where he was formally placed under arrest.

ACCUSED:  NEWMAN, David     DOB: 03/12/46

                      28 Bellevale St.

                      Monroe, CT.

CHARGES: Fabrication of Physical evidence  (2counts)

                     Larceny 6th   (5 counts)

The accused was processed at Troop-I in Bethany and was released on bond $5000 non-surety bond. NEWMAN will appear in Superior Court GA #23 in New Haven today 02/10/06.
