MEDIA COVERAGE AIDS IN ASSAULT ARREST

On February 26, 2006 a disturbance occurred in the mall area of the Mohegan Sun Casino involving a large group of people. During the course of that disturbance, a victim was stabbed several times. The perpetrator of the stabbing was not immediately identified at the time of the incident. State Police working with Tribal Police obtained surveillance photos of the incident and the perpetrator.

State Police Detectives from the Casino Unit and Eastern District Major Crime were assigned to conduct this investigation.

A news release regarding this incident was sent to the media with photographs of the suspect in the case. State Police Detectives asked for the assistance of the public in identifying the unknown suspect in this stabbing incident.

Shortly after the media broadcast an anonymous source, who saw the media coverage, called the Connecticut State Police Casino Unit and provided a State Police Detective with information about the possible suspect.

Utilizing that information, State Police Detectives worked with the Norwich Police Department and were able to positively identify the suspect.  State Police Detectives submitted an arrest warrant for the arrest of the accused FLETCHER.

Additional arrests are expected.

ARRESTED:    FLETCHER, Husani    age 24    d.o.b. 08/01/1981

CHARGES:     Criminal Attempt to Commit assault 1st

                   Assault 2nd Degree

Accused was released after posting a $100,000 bond. To appear in Superior Court G.A. 21 Norwich  on 4/13/06
