CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE

“B.A.T. Mobile”

New DUI Enforcement Vehicle

Today, 12/28/2006, the Connecticut State Police took delivery of a new vehicle which will assist this agency in a multitude of capacities. The vehicle will be commonly referred to as the “B.A.T. Mobile” (Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit). This new mobile enforcement support vehicle is a multipurpose police vehicle. The primary assignment of this vehicle is to support our DWI enforcement efforts. It also has technology aboard to enable Troopers to provide traffic safety educational presentations to the public. In addition this vehicle has the equipment and technology installed to allow it to be used as a command post for situations that require a temporary command operation.

Some of the equipment installed on the “B.A.T. Mobile” : a temporary holding cell, an exterior lighting system, an Intoximeter Instrument, a mast mounted video system capable of recording the check point operations, a prisoner processing area, and an exterior monitor and audio system for public presentations.

With the DWI processing equipment onboard the “B.A.T. Mobile” it allows for a more efficient use of manpower at sobriety checkpoints because now when an arrest is made the accused can be processed, tested, and held at the scene instead of transporting the arrested subject to another facility. This increases the effiency by enabling the troopers to return immediately to the checkpoint operations.

AS A  PART OF THE CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE  NEW YEARS EVE ENFORCMENT. WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THIS UNIT HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO BE DEPLOYED ON DECEMBER 31ST  TO RT 2A  IN PRESTON CT,  AS A PART OF THE CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT OPERATION…... THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME THAT THE BAT MOBILE IS PUT INTO SERVICE .  ###end###
