The Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad is investigating the death of Jose Luis Rivera.

On November 24, 1997 the Greenwich Fire Department responded to a brush fire on the southbound I-95 on ramp near Field Point Road in the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut.

During the suppression of the fire the body of Jose Luis Rivera was discovered in a plastic trash barrel.

The investigation revealed the victim died as a result of gunshot wounds prior to being set afire.

Investigators also believe that Jose Luis Rivera was killed as a result of narcotics involvement in New York City.
