Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education Program (CARE) COVID-19 Updates

To help mitigate the community spread of COVID-19, CARE classes and events are cancelled through the end of April, effective March 17th, 2020. This policy may be extended as we continue to follow guidance from our state and federal officials. All Chief Instructors and partner organizations have been contacted to confirm these cancellations and review options to reschedule for summer or fall if possible.

The CARE Program is proud of our hands-on, student-centered approach to fishing instruction. We seek to give students of all backgrounds the skills, knowledge, and encouragement needed to become successful anglers. Fishing fosters a unique connection with nature, leading CARE students to appreciate and advocate for Connecticut's natural resources. We look forward to resuming CARE classes at a future date when deemed appropriate by federal and state guidelines.

In the meantime, fishing is a healthy way to enjoy some fresh air and solitude while practicing social distancing. On March 24, 2020, Governor Ned Lamont issued an Executive Order opening lakes, ponds, rivers and streams to fishing statewide. During this time of social distancing, fishing should be enjoyed as a solitary experience or with members of your immediate household, not as a group activity. Learn more about that Executive Order here: https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Fishing/COVID-19-Updates-Fisheries-Division

Our Trout Hatcheries have been working tirelessly to provide great fishing at your local fishing hole, and bass, chain pickerel, panfish, and catfish make for fun fishing opportunities year-round. Follow spring trout stocking using the Interactive Stocking Map.
