Real Estate Broker - Initial/Exam

Purpose:

This application is for an individual broker who has taken pre-licensure real estate courses from a Connecticut approved school.

Prerequisites:     

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • 60 hour classroom course in Real Estate Principles and Practices
  • 15 hour classroom course in Real Estate Brokerage Principles and Practices
  • 15 hour classroom course in Legal Compliance
  • 2 -15 hour pre-license elective courses  OR  1 -30 hour pre-license Appraisal course OR evidence successfully completing at least 20 real estate transactions in the previous 5 years. A transaction is defined as a legal transfer of real property or execution of lease agreement
  • Actively engaged for at least two years as a licensed real estate salesperson under the supervision of a licensed real estate broker in this state. 

Required Documentation:

  • Completed notarized application available through PSI
  • Course certificates submitted directly to PSI

Applications, Forms & Other:

All candidates for the CT Real Estate Broker Examination must be preapproved by PSI BEFORE you register for or schedule your Broker examination.

Upon approval by PSI, you will be sent an Examination Eligibility Postcard, including instructions for scheduling the examination.

  • You may take the examination on an unlimited basis for up to one year from the date of eligibility
  • You must pass both portions of the examination within one (1) year of eligibility
  • If you do not pass both portions within one year, you must reapply with the PSI

Broker Legal Entities (LLC, Corporation, etc.)

  • If you plan to do business as a legal entity you must obtain a broker license in the name of that legal entity. Follow these application procedures first; then AFTER you have passed the CT Broker Licensing Exam, download the New Legal Entity Application and mail it with the applicable fees and your passing broker exam score reports.
