Real Estate - Attorney Application

Purpose:
This application is for an individual salesperson or broker seeking approval of real estate courses taken from a law school, as well as from any other college, university or professional real estate school.
No correspondence courses or on-line courses are acceptable.
Prerequisites:   
  • All applicants are required to take the real estate examination administered by PSI.

  • Real estate courses will be considered from your law school, as well as from any other college, university or professional real estate school. No correspondence courses or on-line courses are acceptable.

  • All Broker applicants must also demonstrate the following:

    • At least 2 years of licensed real estate experience in Connecticut; and
    • 15 hour classroom course in Real Estate Brokerage Principles and Practices OR
    • If applicable, a sworn affidavit you engage in real estate closings as a regular part of your law practice

  • If your education is approved, you will receive an Examination Eligibility Postcard from PSI Examination Services with instructions to register and schedule the examination. PSI can be contacted at 1-800-733-9267 or www.psiexams.com. If your coursework is not approved, you will be informed of further requirements.

Required Documentation:
   
  • Completed notarized application;

  • Original transcripts/course certificates from each institution where you completed real estate related coursework;

  • If you currently hold or held a real estate license in another state, you must provide this office with an original certification of license history received directly from each state;

  • In addition to the above, Broker applicants must also provide the following:

    • a certificate of completion of a 15 hour Broker Principles and Practices course OR 

    • If applicable, a sworn affidavit you engage in real estate closings as a regular part of your law practice

Application Fee:

  • Broker: $120.00

    • The $565.00 initial license fee and $20.00 guaranty fund will be due upon the successfully completion the examination.

    • If you plan to do business as a legal entity you must obtain a broker license in the name of that legal entity. Follow these application procedures first; then AFTER you have passed the CT Broker Licensing Exam, go to www.ct.gov/dcpand download the Legal Entity Application and submit with initial license fee and your passing CT broker exam score report.

  • Salesperson: $80.00

    • The $285.00 initial license fee and $20.00 guaranty fund will be due upon the successfully completion the examination.
