Grey Market

"Grey market" items are any brand-name consumer products that are generally not authorized to be in the stream of commerce in a geographical area. Reasons for non-authorization may be that they do not meet the needs of consumers in that area or that they do not meet local industry and/or governmental standards.

A retailer or dealer who knowingly sells or offers for sale any grey market item must disclose whether the product is not:

  • accompanied by the manufacturer’s warranty valid in the US,
  • accompanied by instructions in English, or
  • eligible for a rebate offered by the manufacturer.
