Introduction

A Message from the Director of Certification

I am happy to welcome you to the Commission on Fire Prevention and Control (CFPC), Certification Division web page. The Certification Division is committed to the development and maintenance of organizational procedures for testing. This allows for fair and consistent evaluation and certification of the Connecticut Fire Service to various National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Professional Standards and maintenance of certification records. The division measures the level of knowledge, skill and abilities possessed by candidates and attests that those individuals meet nationally recognized standards. These competency-based standards promote evaluation and uniformity of training programs. Our division is also responsible for preserving the certification process within the requirements issued under the Connecticut General Statutes and State Administrative Regulations related to the CFPC.  The division also strives to ensure all testing is conducted in a manner that provides for the appropriate safety of all applicants, examiners and the general public at all times.

On this page you will find several important links including; Certification Levels, Certification Flow Chart, Applications, Exam Schedules, our Administrative & Operations Manual, along with links to other web sites related to fire service certification. Please take some time to review the information contained on this page. The documents contained can be saved or printed off for future reference.

We strive for a fair, equitable and transparent testing process.  All of our levels of certification have third party accreditation with The Pro Board and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).  These agencies review our testing policies and procedures, along with our practical and written examinations, once every five years to ensure we meet NFPA standards for each level we certify. Our division also works closely with the Connecticut Fire Academy training staff for consistency between both divisions which is critical to our mission.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us by phone, email, or drop in to speak with us directly.  The office is open during normal business hours Monday-Friday and is located next to the Training Division at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks.
