Commission on Fire Prevention and Control to Pilot Computer Based Certification Testing

Early in March 2019, the Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention & Control, Questionmark, and Performance Training Systems entered into an agreement to provide computer based certification testing for members of the Connecticut fire service.  The signing of this agreement concluded an 18-month review of the Questionmark system.  In the Fall of 2018 we sent out a survey asking members of the Connecticut fire service to comment on the possibility of moving toward computer based testing. The responses to moving in this direction were overwhelmingly positive.  Since the beginning of 2019 staff at the Certification Division have learned how to use and manage the Questionmark system.  We also entered into a partnership with the Connecticut Regional and Community College system to use their computer labs on campuses throughout the state for this testing.  After a very careful and detailed analysis of Questionmark system, and with consultation from our two accrediting bodies The Pro Board and IFSAC, we are now ready to begin rolling out this service to our customers.

Beginning this month, the Certification Division will use the Questionmark computer testing system for FF1/HMWMD written certification exams.  Throughout the coming months we will slowly bring in additional levels of computer based testing; FF2, Fire Service Instructor, and Fire Officer.  The system will provide users immediate feedback upon exam completion and a detailed Coaches Report for each Job Performance level tested.  If you have any questions, please contact Certification Director Jason Decremer at 860-264-9225 or jason.decremer@ct.gov
