ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT BORDER WALL DECISION

(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement tonight regarding the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to allow the Trump administration to proceed with border wall construction while litigation continues.

"I join many across Connecticut and our nation who are dismayed by tonight’s decision. What feels like a lifetime ago, Donald Trump promised to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. Tonight, we are one step closer to the American people paying for this abhorrent vanity project. But this is merely the beginning of our work to defend our Constitution and the rule of law from the President’s blatant abuse. Make no mistake— the crisis at the border is a humanitarian disaster caused and created by the President and his pointless policy of hate and cruelty. Congress refused to fund the border wall for good reason— it is a massive waste of taxpayer funding for no public good. We will continue to vigorously fight this case in court because the country we love is still built on the rule of law and separation of powers," said Attorney General William Tong.

Connecticut is part of a coalition of 20 states including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawai'i, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin suing to block the Trump Administration’s unauthorized construction of the border wall, and any illegal diversion of Congressionally-appropriated funds.
