ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG STATEMENT AFTER JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP DIVERSION OF FUNDS FOR BORDER WALL

(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement after a federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from taking defense funding to construct the President's border wall.

"This decision was yet another strong legal rebuke of the President's unlawful efforts to build his wall. We have argued all along that the Trump administration cannot simply ignore the will of Congress in diverting defense funding for this hurtful vanity project. The Trump wall is nothing more than a xenophobic campaign talking point that will do nothing to improve our nation's immigration system. I have witnessed the humanitarian crisis at the border, and it is a crisis caused and made by the President's own disastrous policies. This latest court decision is a major victory, but this fight has only just begun. Connecticut is prepared to do what it takes to defend the rule of law," said Attorney General Tong.
