STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS INFANT DEATH

On 06/06/08, at 3:50 a.m., State Police Troop A in Southbury was notified by Southbury Training School Dispatch Center that they had received a report of an infant who was not breathing and they had dispatched EMS to the one family staff residence located at #27 Village Rd. on the Southbury Training School property. State Police Troopers also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, a non-responsive 6 month old infant was provided emergency care at the scene and was transported via ambulance to Waterbury Hospital Emergency Room. At approximately 4:30 a.m., the infant was pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital E.R.

Due to this untimely death, the single-family residence was secured by State Police and the State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to this scene to initiate an untimely death investigation into this incident. Detectives learned that the infant and his father, who has sole custody of the child, were visiting the uncle’s home and spending the night when this incident took place.

The Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will conduct a postmortem examination of the deceased to determine the manner and cause of death of this child. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The State Police investigation is continuing.
