If your learner’s permit is lost or destroyed, you can get a duplicate learner’s permit online.

You cannot request a duplicate learner’s permit online if any of the following scenarios are true for you:

• Your name has changed since you got your learner’s permit . Learn how to change your name on your learner’s permit .
• You have a drive only learner’s permit . Please make an appointment to request a duplicate drive only learner’s permit in person.
• You have a commercial learner’s permit . Please make an appointment to request a duplicate commercial driver's learner’s permit in person.
• You have a motorcycle learner’s permit . Please make an appointment to request a duplicate motorcycle driver's learner’s permit in person.
  
  If you cannot request your duplicate learner’s permit online, please replace it in person instead.

• Your first and last name exactly as it appears on your current learner's permit
• Your date of birth
• Your street address
• Your learner's permit number
• Your social security number
• A credit or debit card

If your name or address has changed since you got your permit, there are additional steps to update your address on your new permit. Learn how to change your address.

Step 1: Print and complete the required form

• Complete an Application for Duplicate of Current Driver's License or Permit (form 1-B).
  
  

Step 2: Make an appointment

When replacing a learner's permit, please make an appointment at a DMV office. Commercial learner's permit, motorcycle learner’s permit and drive only learner’s permit can only be replaced in a DMV office.

You may also make an appointment at a AAA location, Milford and North Haven Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union. These locations charge a convenience fee up to $8.00 per DMV transaction.

Step 3: Get your learner's permit in the mail

You will get a temporary permit at your appointment. Your permanent learner's permit card will arrive through the mail.

 

Your new permit will only be mailed to the mailing address on file with the DMV. If you have mail forwarding, you will NOT receive your new learner's permit.

• Provide a check or money order made payable to “DMV,”. All checks must be drawn on a United States Bank and made payable in United States funds.

• Your duplicate credential will be mailed directly to the address on file and you will receive it within 20 days.
  
  

To request a duplicate learner's permit by email:

• Complete a REQUEST FOR A CONNECTICUT DRIVER'S LICENSE/IDENTIFICATION CARD BY MAIL (form B-350).
• E-mail completed form(s) to DMV.CIU@ct.gov.
• To pay for your request, a link will be emailed to you within two (2) business days.
• If there are any issues with your request, we will notify you via email.
• Your duplicate credential will be mailed directly to the address on file and you will receive it within 20 days.
