Registering as an Organ and Tissue Donor Can Save Lives
There is a critical shortage of organs available for transplant—and 20 people die each day because not enough people donate. To help save and heal lives, all Connecticut residents are encouraged to join the Donor Registry. Signing up is simple—and anyone can register regardless of age, health or medical condition. In 2012, Andrew caught a virus that led to heart problems and, ultimately, to end-stage heart failure. He was admitted to the hospital and placed on the heart transplant waiting list. After four months of living in the hospital intensive care unit, Andrew’s condition worsened despite excellent care. He was implanted with a temporary heart pump that would take over the function of his failing heart to help him live long enough until transplant. On September 21, 2016, Andrew received the gift of life—a new heart. Since then, Andrew has been on a mission to continue helping others learn the importance of joining the Donor Registry.

Who is Eligible
Anyone holding a Connecticut driver's license, non-driver ID or learner's permit can update their donor registry status online.
How to
Step 1: Gather what you’ll need
- Your first and last name exactly as it appears on your current driver's license, non-driver ID, or learner's permit
- Your date of birth
- Your street address
- Your driver’s license number
- Your social security number

Step 3: No new license/ID will be mailed
Your donor registry choice will be reflected on your DMV record, however no new driver's license, non-driver ID, or learner's permit will be mailed to you. If you wish to have your current donor registry status reflected on your credential, you can choose to apply for a duplicate driver’s license, non-driver ID, or learner’s permit.

Anyone with an appointment to obtain or renew a driver's license, non-driver ID card or learner's permit at any DMV service location.
