STEP - Specialized Treatment Early in Psychosis

The STEP Clinic provides comprehensive care to individuals ages 16-35 who are early in the course of a psychotic illness. STEP seeks to engage patients and families in a manner that is adapted to the needs of emerging adulthood. The model of care includes comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, pharmacologic treatment, assertive outreach, coordination of services with a focus on connecting patients to community and clinical resources, and supported employment and education. A particular emphasis is placed on family education and support and individualized treatment planning that can include cognitive-behavioral approaches and supportive counseling. Co-morbid conditions, such as anxiety and depression, are treated as indicated. The model of care has been described in publications and treatment manuals (available upon request) and on the clinic web site:  www.step.yale.edu
