State Troopers Seek Information following Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Pomfret
On July 4, 2017 at approximately 10:04 p.m., troopers from Troop D - Danielson responded to Mashamoquet Rd. (Route 44) near Route 97 in Pomfret for a reported motor vehicle vs. pedestrian crash.
Upon arrival troopers learned that two pedestrians and their dog were walking west on Mashamoquet Rd. when the dog was struck by a passing vehicle.  The two pedestrians, a 36 year old female and 15 year old male, were stopped in the travel lane tending to their injured dog when they were struck by a second vehicle, a 2007 Infiniti sedan.
Following the collision, the 15 year old male was thrown to the westbound shoulder and suffered apparent severe head trauma.  He was transported to Day Kimball Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.  The 36 year old female was also thrown to the westbound shoulder where she was pronounced deceased on scene.
The operator stopped the Infiniti on Mashamoquet Rd.  No injuries were reported to the Infiniti operator or occupants.
Anyone who thinks they may have any information, may have witnessed the crash, or may have any information regarding the vehicle, operator or pedestrians immediately before or after the crash is asked to call Troop D at 860-779-4900 x2052.  All calls will remain confidential.
