** UPDATE: Suspect Identified **
State Police Detectives Investigate Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Officer-Involved Shooting

Ledyard, CT. (September 20, 2016): State Police detectives from Eastern District Major Crime are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at Foxwoods Casino.

On September 20, 2016 Mashantucket Pequot Tribal police officers attempted to serve an active arrest warrant on a wanted suspect.  As Mashantucket police officers attempted to take the suspect into custody in the Fox Tower parking garage, he pointed a firearm at them.  Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, however he did not comply.  At least one Mashantucket Tribal Police Officer discharged at least one round from their duty weapon at the suspect.  The suspect then fell off the 4th level of the Fox Tower parking garage on to a paved driveway below. 


Mashantucket Tribal Police Officers rendered first aid, however the suspect was pronounced deceased. There were no other reported injuries.  There were no injuries to police officers. 

On September 20, 2016 at approximately 12:00 p.m., at the request of the Mashantucket Tribal Police chief and the New London State's Attorney Office, detectives from Eastern District Major Crime responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner also responded to the scene and will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending next of kin notification.  The identity of the police officer/s is being withheld at this time.

State Police detectives continue to investigate.  There is no threat to the public or community.


** UPDATE **

The deceased has been identified as Michael Goodale (DOB 11/20/92) LKA of 230 Eastern Point Rd Groton City, CT. The warrant was for violation of probation.
