Connecticut State Police Announce Citizens’ Police Academy

APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED

The Connecticut State Police Department is accepting applications for the 2011 State Police Citizens’ Police Academy.  The academy provides citizens with information and hands-on training in a variety of Connecticut State Police related topics. The Citizens’ Police Academy will be conducted by Connecticut State Police Academy Instructors, who will share their knowledge and experiences from a training perspective.

Sessions will meet for ten weeks on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  Sessions will start on May 10, 2011 and will be held at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden, CT.  The weekly sessions will explore the history and training of the Connecticut State Troopers, introduction to specialized units, understanding accident investigation, use of canines, use of force drills, and introduction to forensics and the Major Crime Squad.  Participants will have an opportunity to participate in a ride-along experience with a Trooper and will tour the Connecticut State Police Forensics Lab.  Upon completion of the academy program all participants will formally graduate from the program.

The State Police Citizens Police Academy is open to residents of the State of Connecticut who are 18 years or older.  All applicants will be subject to a criminal background check.

Residents can register for the class by contacting Trooper Dawn Taylor at 203-427-2014 or dawn.taylor@ct.gov.

Applications must be submitted by April 19, 2011.
