**UPDATE** State Trooper Involved In shooting  **UPDATE**

On October 8th, 2010 the Danbury Police Department received a report of a stolen motor vehicle from the “Food Bag” convenience store.  Officers quickly located the vehicle being operated by a lone white male and a brief pursuit ensued.  The subject later fled on foot and was observed by a Connecticut State Trooper on patrol on I-84 in the area of exit 4.  The subject was subsequently shot by a Trooper when the he was confronted with a life-threatening situation.

At the request of the Danbury State’s Attorney’s Office, the Eastern District Major Crime Squad was directed to conduct the investigation into this matter.  Investigation has revealed that the lone perpetrator was in possession of what appeared to be a handgun, which was observed by several officers and witnesses.  At one point, the weapon in question was directed at a Connecticut State Trooper who discharged his firearm, striking the subject.  No shots were fired by the subject, and the weapon in the possession of the deceased will be examined by the Forensic Science Lab.  The perpetrator later succumbed to his injuries.

On October 9, 2010 an autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  Following this autopsy, investigators were able to identify the deceased as Albert James VOUTE, III, 36, most recently of #860 Oradell Ave. Oradell, NJ.  VOUTE has a lengthy criminal record in several states, and he most recently was wanted, following his escape in Martinsburg, WV on September 15, 2010 from a transport service for the United State’s Marshal.    VOUTE was serving a 14 year sentence on bank robbery charges and he was recently featured on “America’s Most Wanted.”

The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad continues to investigate this matter with the assistance of the Danbury State’s Attorney’s Office and the Danbury Police Department.
