STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING

Today 01/15/10 shortly after 7:52 a.m. Plainville Police received a 911 complaint reporting that a subject was causing damage to several cars in the area of Woodford Rd. near Dewey Place.

A Plainville Police Officer responded to the area of the complaint and located a suspect on Woodford Rd. The Plainville Police Officer observed that the suspect was armed with a hammer.  The Plainville Officer ordered the suspect to put the hammer on the ground. The suspect turned toward the officer, refused, and advanced in a threatening manner toward the officer.  The Officer drew his service weapon and fired at the suspect. The male suspect suffered a single gunshot wound.  Emergency care was provided to the suspect at the scene. EMS responded to the scene and transported the suspect via ambulance to Hartford Hospital where it is reported he is being treated for a non life threatening gunshot wound.

At the request of the acting Plainville Police Chief and the State’s Attorney Scott Murphy the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to the Plainville shooting scene to conduct the investigation into this police shooting.

Identities being withheld at this time. The case remains under investigation.
