UPDATE

STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE

REPORTED ARSON,  POSSIBLE MURDER

 & ATTEMPTED SUICIDE 

   Today, 01/05/09, at 5:17 a.m., State Police Troop-E and Griswold Fire service were summoned to a structure Fire at a house located at 74 Richardson Hill Road in Griswold. Upon arrival, a fully involved house fire was discovered.

   State Police Detectives later determined that the fire may have been intentionally set.   Detectives located an occupant of the residence who is currently being interviewed.

   The fire was brought under control by Fire Service and the scene was secured by State Troopers. State Police Arson Detectives from the Office of State Fire Marshal responded to conduct the fire investigation. 

   The State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad is also conducting an investigation into an untimely death believed to be related to this incident. 

   These cases remain under investigation by State Police.  Identity of the deceased and other involved is being withheld at this time to allow for notification of next of kin.

     Today, 01/05/09, shortly after 2:00 p.m., State Police Detectives placed an accused under arrest relative to the house fire in Griswold. He was discharged from Backus Hospital and immediately taken into custody by State Police. The accused was transported to Troop-E where he was processed and held on $1,000,000 bond to appear in Superior Court GA #21 in Norwich on 01/06/09.
