UPDATE

State Police Investigation of

Untimely Death, South Windsor

  On Saturday 06/20/09 at approximately 9:30 a.m. South Windsor Police responded to a private residence located at Birch Road in South Windsor. South Windsor Police Officers were attempting to locate the male subject at the residence. 

 Upon arrival and entering the residence the officer were confronted by the make subject who was armed with a knife. The male subject was ordered to disarm himself and he refused. A South Windsor Police Officer was forced to utilize his assigned Taser unit on the male subject. The male subject sustained injury by the knife that was in his possession.  He was treated at the scene by EMS and was transported to Manchester Memorial Hospital where he later was pronounced dead. The deceased is a 36-year-old South Windsor resident.

 The scene was secured and at the request of the Hartford State’s Attorney and the Chief of South Windsor Police the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad responded to conduct the investigation into this incident.

On 06/22/09 The Office of The Chief States Medical Examiner conducted a post mortem examination on the deceased. The cause of death stab wound to chest.  The death has ruled a suicide.  The deceased is identified as Derrek Kairney age 36 dob: 1/9/73  51 Birch Rd South Windsor, Ct.

  The State Police and Hartford States Attorneys Office are continuing this investigation.
