STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH IN WESTON

At the request of Chief John Troxell, members of the Connecticut State Police CARS (Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad) Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred at approximately 10:06 a.m. August 25 on Route 57 (Weston Road/School Rd) in the town of Weston.

This incident started earlier in the day when Westport Police Department was notified by Norwalk Police Department that they were attempting to stop a carjacked stolen motor vehicle.  The carjacked stolen vehicle traveled onto I-95 northbound and exited the highway at exit 17 in Westport at which time Westport Police officers spotted the car in the area of Saugatuck Avenue.  Westport Police cars attempted to stop the carjacked stolen motor vehicle, but were unable to catch up with the vehicle as it sped off at a high rate of speed, and subsequently lost sight of the stolen motor vehicle in traffic.  The operator of the carjacked vehicle struck several vehicles in the Saugatuck Avenue area of Westport as it attempted to flee.

Minutes later, Westport Police Department received several 911 calls related to a carjacking that occurred at Hermit Lane/Cavalry Road.  Westport Police Officers spotted this second carjacked stolen motor vehicle on Weston Road and attempted to stop it.  The driver of the carjacked stolen vehicle did not stop and fled northbound on Weston Road, subsequently entering the town of Weston.  A short time later near the center of town, the operator of the carjacked stolen motor vehicle lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole on Weston Road (Rte. 57) near School Road.

Weston Police Department, as well as Weston Fire and EMS personnel, responded to the scene to render assistance to the operator.  The operator was subsequently transported to Norwalk Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The deceased operator has been identified as SAMUEL MARINO, DOB: 1/19/83,  LKA Miry Brook Rd,  Danbury, CT.

Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad (CARS unit) is investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal motor vehicle accident.  This case remains under investigation.
