UPDATE     

STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF

                                       STAMFORD POLICE PRISONER

On 12/30/09 at approximately 11:15 a.m. Stamford Police Department received a 911 call requesting police response to a residence located at 23 Lafayette St in Stamford for an unruly resident.

Stamford Police Officers responded to the residence and encountered an agitated uncooperative male subject inside the residence. The male subject failed to comply to the officers orders and became aggressive toward the officers.  The police officers were forced to deploy pepper spray to attempt to gain control of the subject with negative results. The male suspect became more aggressive and combative toward the officers. The Stamford Officer was force to deploy his assigned Taser to gain control of the suspect.

Stamford Police Officers were able to place handcuffs on the suspect who shortly thereafter began to suffer medical distress. The suspect was provided emergency care and EMS was summoned to the scene. The male subject was transported to Stamford Hospital Emergency Department where shortly after admission he was pronounced dead.

The scene was secured by Stamford Police.  At the request of the Stamford Police Chief and State’s Attorney David Kane the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad was requested to respond to conduct the investigation into this death. 

Major Crime Troopers processed the scene gathered physical and forensic evidence, documented the scene and interviewed witnesses in this case.

On 12/31/009 The Office of the Chief States’ Medical Examiner performed a post mortem examination of the deceased. The cause of death has not been determined pending further studies.

The deceased is identified as Stephen Palmer DOB: 11/25/62 23 Lafayette Apt # 2 Stamford, Ct.

The case is under investigation.
