STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE

SUSPICIOUS DEATH,  NOW RULED AS A HOMICIDE

WEST HAVEN I95 EXIT 42

 

   On Saturday, 06/13/09 at approximately 11:30 p.m. State Troopers (from Troop G) were dispatched to the report of a motor vehicle accident near the on ramp of I-95 northbound for exit #42 in West Haven.  West Haven Emergency Medical Services, Police, and State Police all responded to the scene.

   The vehicle appeared to have traveled down an embankment and was covered by foliage.  Upon gaining access to the vehicle, responding personnel located a lone male occupant who was pronounced dead at the scene. 

   An examination of the scene by responding State Police Troopers determined that the injury did not seem consistent with a motor vehicle accident. The scene was secured as a crime scene and Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to the scene to conduct this investigation.

   The preliminary investigation by State Police Detectives at the scene confirmed that the injury was inconsistent with a motor vehicle accident.  State Police Detectives documented and processed the scene and gathered physical and forensic evidence. 

   Troopers have identified the deceased as

TREMAINE A. NEWTON  DOB: 3/21/89 201 Trumbull Ave Bridgeport, CT.  

   A post mortem examination was conducted by the Office of The Chief States Medical Examiner to on Monday 06/15/2009 to determine the cause and manner of death.

   The Medical Examiner ruled this death a homicide by gunshot.

The investigation is continuing.
