UPDATE

STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH RULED A HOMICIDE

On 12/04/09 at approximately 7:23 p.m. a 911 call was received reporting a possible brush fire on JEREMY HILL Rd. In North Stonington, CT. The caller reported that it appeared that possibly a body was on fire at that location.  The Resident State Trooper and North Stonington Fire Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival it was determined that there was a deceased human body on fire at the location. 

The person was pronounced dead at the scene by responded EMS personnel. The area was secured by Responding State Troopers.  The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to initiate a criminal investigation into this incident.

State Police Major Crime Detectives processed the crime scene recovered forensic and physical evidence. Detectives attempted to locate witnesses in this case. State Troopers Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal also responded to assist in the fire portion of this investigation. While the scene was processed, State Police closed Jeremy Hill Rd to traffic from Rt. 184 to Rt. 201. Information regarding this case was broadcast to all police departments in an attempt to identify the victim. 

The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief State's Medical Examiner where a post mortem examination was conducted. The death was ruled a homicide.

Connecticut State Police Detectives received information from Suffolk County Police that did assist in providing information that was used to identify the deceased.

Connecticut State Troopers have identified the deceased female. She is REBECCA KOSTER a 24 year old Medford New York resident.

Connecticut State Police are conducting a joint criminal investigation with Suffolk County Police in an attempt to answer all questions regarding the death of Rebecca Koster.

Connecticut State Police are asking anyone with any information in this case to contact State Police Major Crime Detectives at Troop-E 860 848- 6500. All calls will be kept confidential.

The investigation is continuing.
