                                 STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE ASSAULT
                                  ON MASHANTUCKET POLICE OFFICER
   On 10-28-2009, at approximately 6:45 p.m., State Police at Troop E in Montville received a call from the Mashantucket Tribal Police Department requesting assistance.  
   Tribal Police advised that one of their officers had called for assistance after approaching a lone male subject at the tribal burial grounds on Fanning Road in Ledyard, and radio contact could not be re-established.
   Patrol Troopers from Troop E and officers from the Ledyard Resident Trooper's Office responded to the scene to assist.  Once on scene, preliminary investigation revealed that the tribal officer had been assaulted by an unidentified subject who had fled the area.
   State Police and local officers, along with a State Police K-9 team, searched the area and surrounding locations for the unidentified male.  This search ended with negative results.
   The subject is described as an Asian or Hispanic male between 5’6” – 5’8” tall, wearing a hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans. 
   The Tribal Police Officer was taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich, where the officer was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.  The identity of the Mashantucket Tribal Police Officer is being withheld at this time pending further investigation.
   State Police are requesting that anyone who may have any information regarding this incident or may have been in the area of Fanning Road during this time to please contact State Police at Troop E in Montville at 860-848-6565.
