State Police Truck Squad Makes Weapons Arrest

On February 27, 2009, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Connecticut State Police Truck Squad was conducting Commercial Motor Vehicle at the I-95 Northbound Greenwich Weigh Station.

At this time, Troopers began an inspection of a tractor-trailer bearing Florida Temporary Registration plates. The vehicle was a 2003 Peterbilt, operated by Jeraldo Muniz, DOB 7/30/1968, of Hollywood, Florida.

Upon questioning by Troopers, Muniz relayed information that he did in fact have a handgun in the sleeper berth portion of the tractor portion of the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, a 40-caliber Beretta handgun was located in the sleeper berth. In addition, a knife with a 7 ½ inch blade was found in the storage portion of the cab.

Troopers placed Muniz under arrest and transported him to State Police Troop G in Bridgeport. Muniz was charged with two counts of Carrying a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle and Carrying a Handgun without a Permit.  He is being held on $15,000 bond and will be presented at the GA 1 Court on March 2.
