      STATE POLICE MAKE ARRESTS IN SHOOTING DEATH OF 2-YEAR-OLD 

   On 9-17-08, State Police Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad arrested Jason and Rebecca Matteau in connection with the August 28, 2008, accidental shooting death of their two-and-a-half-year-old son, Wyatt, at their home #17B Green Avenue in the Jewett City part of Griswold.

   State Police Major Crime Detectives conducted an extensive investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting death of the child.  As a result of the investigation, arrest warrant applications were submitted to Superior Court for the arrest of both accused.

   Two arrest warrants issued by the New London County State Attorney’s Office to charge the victim’s father, Jason Matteau, age 27,  DOB 1-4-81, with Criminally Negligent Storage of a Firearm and Risk of Injury. The victim’s mother, Rebecca Matteau, age 24, DOB 6-29-84, was arrested and charged with Criminally Negligent Storage of a Firearm and Risk of Injury to a Minor.

   Today, 9/17/08, both accused surrendered to State Police at the Troop E barracks located in Montville.  They were processed and released on $50,000 bond to appear in GA #21 in Norwich on 10/01/08 for arraignment.

   No additional arrests are anticipated in this case.
