Endangered/Armed Subject Taken into Custody

in Brooklyn CT Without Incident

On Friday 02/10/2006, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a Brooklyn man being sought by the Connecticut State Police as a missing/endangered subject was located and taken into custody in a sand pit off of Rukstella Road in Brooklyn CT.

On Thursday, at approximately 6 p.m., the State Police at Troop D received a complaint from a family member(s) indicating that a male family member had left the family home in Brooklyn at approximately 2 a.m., possibly armed with firearm(s) and possibly in danger of causing harm to himself. Searches for the subject throughout the night were unsuccessful.

Information was developed that lead the search to an area near the Brooklyn/Canterbury town line. Due to the large open area, inaccessible to motor vehicles, the State Police Helicopter “Trooper One” was called to the scene, and at approximately 9:30 a.m. the crew of Trooper One and a State Trooper from Troop D who was familiar with the area located the subject’s vehicle near the landfill on Beecher Road and spotted the armed subject nearby. Ground units were guided to the area as Trooper One maintained a visual on the armed subject.

Troopers from Troop D secured the area, including closing down the nearby landfill on Beecher Road. A perimeter was set up and maintained by Troopers as the State Police Tactical Unit was deployed to apprehend the armed man.

The State Police Tactical Team was able to approach the endangered armed male, disarm him of a rifle and a handgun and successfully take him into custody without incident.  The subject was transported to Troop D in Danielson where he was processed on criminal charges. The subject was then transported to a local medical facility for a medical evaluation. The subject will be held on a $100,000 bond and presented in court G.A. 11 on Tuesday, February 14, 2006.
