Staying Informed

There are multiple ways for you to stay informed before, during and after a disaster. The following is a list of resources available to you during an emergency or disaster situation.

CT Prepares Web Application

The CT Prepares app can be downloaded on both Apple and Android based smartphones. CT Prepares provides information and alerts in emergency situations and incorporates and integrates text messaging, email, and social networking, allowing residents to communicate with family members during an emergency. Users will receive real-time notifications including emergency news, state office closings, and public safety messages.

 

CT Safe Web Application

The CT Safe Mobile Application, in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP), along with the Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC), allows citizens of Connecticut to report on suspicious activities within their communities. Connecticut 211

Connecticut 211 provides informational services to the public during disasters. Residents are urged to call 211 if you need help finding specific resources or basic information before, during, and after a disaster. CT Alert Notification System

CT Alert is an enrollment based notification system that is used to notify the public of impending emergency situations. The public may enroll in this notification system by clicking here.

Severe external weather updates are now posted on our website when sent out through the CT Alert messing system. You may view these alerts by clicking here.

 

Social Media

The Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security utilizes social media to send out important information before, during and after storms and crisis situations. Additionally, during disaster situations, the Office of the Governor may utilize social media platforms to inform the public.

NOAA Weather Radio

NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. Click here to learn more.

Press Releases- News and Announcements

During a disaster situation and in times of blue skies, the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and the Office of the Governor periodically release critical information related to storm readiness, protective actions, and disaster recovery.
