Fire Protection Licenses

License types and scope of work:

License types include:

  •  F1 Unlimited Fire Protection Sprinkler Contractor
  • F2 Unlimited Fire Protection Sprinkler Journeyperson
  • F3 Limited Fire Protection Sprinkler Contractor
  • F4 Limited Fire Protection Sprinkler Journeyperson
  • F5 Limited Multipurpose Residential Sprinkler Contractor License

For License Types F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4

Requirements:

Journeyperson:

The requirements to qualify for the journeyperson license examination shall be completion of a registered apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and training.

Contractor:

The requirements to qualify for the contractor license examination shall be two (2) years as a properly licensed journeyperson.

Contractor: $150.00

  • The $150.00 initial license fee will be due after the successful completion of the examination.

Journeyperson: $90.00  

  • The $120.00 initial license fee will be due after  the successful completion of the examination.

Renewal:

All fire protection licenses expire annually. 
License Types F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4 expire on October 31st.  Renewal Fee: Contractor: $150.00; Journeyperson: $120.00. 
Fire Sprinkler System Layout Tech. Licenses expire January 31st.  Renewal Fee: $150.

Multipurpose Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems Work: No person shall perform Multipurpose Residential Fire Sprinkler systems work unless such person has obtained a license pursuant to Section 20-332 of the CT General Statutes, Regulations of CT State Agencies. Such license shall be renewed consistent with the renewal process for the prerequisite plumbing-piping licenses.

Limited Multipurpose Residential Sprinkler Contractor License (F-5).
The holder of this license may do such work limited to the handling of materials, installation,
alteration, extension, removal, repair, maintenance or renovation of a multipurpose residential fire sprinkler system involved with water based fire sprinkler systems, for protection against fire hazards in one- and two-family residential dwellings and mobile manufactured homes. In order to obtain such license, a person must (1) have served at least two years as an F6 journeyperson or, (2) have been issued a P-1 license and have been certified as completing a multipurpose residential fire sprinkler
systems course approved by the department which includes the codes and standards adopted by the state of Connecticut for a multipurpose residential sprinkler system.

Limited Multipurpose Residential Sprinkler Journeyperson License (F6).
The holder of this license may perform work limited to the handling of materials, installation,
alteration, extension, removal, repair, maintenance or renovation of a multipurpose residential fire sprinkler system involved with water based fire sprinkler systems, for protection against fire hazards in one- and two-family residential dwellings and mobile manufactured homes; however, such holder may only do such work while in the employ of a contractor licensed for such work. A limited multipurpose residential sprinkler journeyperson license may be issued by the department, to any person who (1) has been issued a P-1 or P-2 license and (2) has been certified as completing a Multipurpose Residential Fire Sprinkler systems course approved by the department which includes the codes and standards adopted by the state of Connecticut for a multipurpose residential sprinkler
system.
