There is a respect for the individual — as well as a fostering of the collective — that is at the heart of Connecticut's culture. It's what makes us such a diverse, inclusive community and what keeps our revolutionary spirit alive.

A passion for invention.

Fueled by Yankee ingenuity and stick-to-itiveness, Connecticut residents and businesses have long been at the forefront of innovation on land, sea, and air — from the invention of the world's first nuclear submarine and helicopter to the fuel cell that powered NASA's first space suit. Supporting these inventors are funders of all types — from private investors and public corporations to state governments and local municipalities.

Commitment to inclusivity.

Connecticut is inclusive and welcoming. Nearly 16% of our population is Latino, 12% African-American and 14% are immigrants — many of Jamaican, Polish and Indian descent. And when other states shut their doors to refugees, Connecticut welcomed these families with open arms and supported them so they could thrive. Connecticut was also the second state in the nation to welcome same sex-marriage — and we continue to be champions for LGBTQ rights.

Leadership in sustainability.

Connecticut has been ranked #5 in the nation for energy efficiency and was named the 7th greenest state by WalletHub. Not only are we a founding member of the Regional Green-house Gas Initiative (RGGI), we created the nation's first Green Bank to leverage private capital to finance energy upgrades. And Connecticut's utility companies are working to help families and companies alike get the most out of every KwHr.
