At the hub of the U.S.’ northeastern corridor, Connecticut offers a robust network of major highways, railways, airports and deepwater ports. The state has made significant investments in transportation infrastructure, including improved roadways, new rail services and a popular and efficient rapid bus transit system. Transportation options are not only diverse but highly connected—which has streamlined trade and business and simplified commuting.

Highways and busways.

Connecticut is served by several major interstate highways—including I-95, I-84, and I-91. Buses also run regularly throughout our metropolitan areas and connect surrounding suburbs to our urban centers. Our cities are also developing new methods of ground transportation—like Greater Hartford’s bus rapid transit system (BRT) that utilizes a bus-only roadway for a portion of the trip and Greater Stamford’s Autonomous Vehicle Zone that’s designated for driverless cars and delivery vehicles.

Proximity to major airports.

Highly ranked Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks is one of Connecticut’s key gateways to the world. New Haven’s airport, Tweed New Haven, also offers convenient access to key domestic and North American destinations. Of course, being at the heart of the northeast market, New York’s JFK, LaGuardia and Westchester airports as well as Boston’s Logan and Rhode Island’s T.F. Green are also just a short ride away.

Frequent, high-speed rail.

Several of Connecticut’s cities are located on Amtrak’s premier northeast regional line, including the high-speed Acela. These lines connect cities up and down the east coast of the U.S. The Shoreline East line connects New Haven to New London. And the Hartford Line connects New Haven to Springfield, Massachusetts, with convenient commuter stops in between.

Highly connected, deepwater ports.

What’s particularly attractive about our ports is how interconnected they are to our railways and highways. All these connections serve to expedite the transportation of goods as well as people. The state also has three deepwater ports — making it ideal for national and international exports.
